Hidden Treasure
This older style motel was a great find. Only 5mins from Byron Central , and right opposite the most wonderful long and uncrowded beach. My husband was able to drive 2mins to the superb golf course down the road, while I could merely walk across the street to the beach for some uninterrupted lazing. The rooms are nicely furnished with a kitchenette (sink, micro, fridge) and very reasonably priced. The owner was friendly and most helpful, giving us lots of tips on where to go and what to see. We have already booked again..can’t wait!

Great value for money
My husband and I stayed a couple of nights in the “studio” and felt right at home. The motel is not modern, fancy or stylish but it is clean, comfortable, quiet and has everything one needs for a happy stay, right down to a helpful selection of tourist brochures and a good collection of DVDs.
The studio has: a living room with two sofas, a TV and DVD player, a breakfast bar with chairs, an air conditioner and ceiling fan; a bedroom with a queen and an single bed, a TV and a ceiling fan (there’s an air conditioner but it didn’t really work); a kitchenette with fridge, stove, microwave and very basic utensils; and a modern bathroom with shower and separate toilet. From the windows you see garden and greenery and it is very private. The location is great, close to the beach, but you really need a car to get to Byron. There is a small shopping centre not too far away, with a little supermarket, a hotel, a post office, a decent Indian restaurant, a bakery etc. This motel provides a welcoming alternative to the expensive glitz of Byron Bay accommodation and we’d certainly go back.

Great little find – small, simple and a beautiful beach
A great place to crash. It is never going to set the world alight but the owner operator is passionate and very focused on giving you a great stay. The beach opposite (4mins) away is one of the nicest beachs I have even been on. Byron Bay is little over 12 minutes away. We had a rental car which was easy, but taxi was easily ordered. Great value for money and a good place to use for a few days whilst beaching / exploring the area.

Great cheap little motel just outside of Byron
My favorite place to stay in Byron Bay. Right across the road from a beutiful beach. Clean rooms and a really nice landscaped pool area. The owner Susie is just lovely too! A lot cheaper then staying in Byron Bay and so close!

“Motel” doesn’t do this place justice
They should rename this place the Tallow Beach Oasis. It’s not fancy, but is super friendly and comfortable, and the gardens and pool are straight out of Bali. The owners are really friendly and full of useful advice.
Definitely recommended.

Good value and quiet very near beach
This is my favoured place to stay when staying in Byron. The reason is that it is only a few yards (on the other side of the beachfront road) from the most beautiful beach in the area, Tallow beach, with miles of beautiful bathing and walking. The price is low, too.
Basically its a standard 1960s or 1970s concrete-block motel that the owners have done all they can, short of rebuilding, to bring up to a “hotel’ standard. So it shows its history in the rather dark rooms, but this is reflected in the low price. And if you are going to be out at the beach or in town all the time, it doesnt matter. The owners encourage a quiet clientele which I’m very happy with too. There is a lovely litte pool and garden.
Its a good idea to have a car as its a bit of a way out of town (though Suffolk Park has some local – and basic – facilities).
The positives: Private, quiet, low cost, beautiful beach on doorstep.

Great motel 10 mins by cab from Byron centre
The Tallow Beach Motel is 15 mins by cab from Byron Bay. It is a small motel with aprox 12 rooms. Some rooms sleep 3 and there are also single rooms available. The rooms are all very clean & have a fridge, toaster and basic cooking utensils. Some have air con units , those that don’t have ceiling fans. The decor may be slightly old fashioned but the shower is good and the beds comfortable. There is a lovely warm swimming pool set in the tropical garden and Tallow Beach is just across the quiet road. It is the perfect place to stay on a budget. It is quiet during the day and night but easy to get into Byron by cab. The transfer bus at the airport drops you at the door for about 15 dollars ( Australian ). The burger joint at the nearby shops does the best organic burgers and has veggie options too. There is also a small supermarket and pub all about a 10 min walk. It is a very friendly relaxed place to stay. I have stayed there twice and will definitely stay there again when back in Byron.
